Wow, Spring Racing really snuck up on us this year! If you’re heading to the Cup (or any of the other races) but still haven’t put together a look yet – don’t fear! I’ve put together a guide for last minute dressing for the carnival and best part? You’ll probably already have these items in your closet!

For the race that stops the nation, it’s all about colour and fun! When putting your look together, start with the dress. Pick a colour that’s bold and easily paired with accessories, like a rich red or vibrant fuchsia and then build on this colour palette with complementary colours or neutrals in your accessories, or if you want a bolder look – go all monochrome with accessories in the same hue as your dress! In terms of what to wear on your head, Melbourne Cup is the day to have a bit of fun – whimsical headbands or fascinators are the perfect fit!

Often referred to as Ladies Day, Oaks Day is all about femininity. Think lace, silks, and soft tones for your dress, with subtle hues across accessories. Consider a cream or soft pink dress, and pair with warm neutrals (or golds) for your accessories and shoes. This is also the day to go big with the headwear, a wide brimmed hat or straw boater are perfect choices to complete your ladylike look, or if hats aren’t your thing, subtle hairpieces referencing florals also will fill the brief!

The last day in a very full schedule of race days, Stakes is the more relaxed date in the racing calendar. Take inspiration from the laid-back feel of the day to put together your look. I love a knee skimming wrap dress in a bold colour, or a floaty maxi, paired with easy accessories and lower heels (even a chic flat!). For headwear, a simple pinned band at the base of your hair, or jewelled hair clip is the perfect finishing touch for a casual day at the races.
