The Workwear Edit
While it’s always fun to talk about the new season and the trends it brings, the one section of our wardrobes we often overlook is our workwear. What you wear to work doesn’t have to be a sea of black separates – we can definitely bring in some fun! From playing with different silhouettes, layering textures, and mixing and matching wardrobe staples, I’m taking you through my tips to upgrade your work look!
No matter how formal or casual your workplace is, a well tailored blazer is a must! While the old rules for workwear dictate you should stay with blacks, greys and navys, why not try something a little left of centre. I love LPA’s Jacket 100, Bianca Spender’s Esquire Jacket, and Camilla and Marc’s Claudel double breast blazer for adding a little fashion edge into your professional wardrobe. If you’re in a more conservative office, consider pairing a blazer with a cigarette pant in a complementing colour and neutral camisole, or if your workplace is a bit more relaxed, mix with denim and a tee for a dressed down, but polished look.
A little black dress is something you should always have at your disposal for when you don’t know what to wear and the same applies for work. That being said, leave the cocktail styles for the evening and aim for a more structured knee length silhouette for work. I love Lover’s Mara Midi Dress, Zimmermann’s Collared Tunic, and Ellery’s Sucker Punch dress for a little twist on the staple dress.
A great skirt can carry you from day to night, and from season to season, and for this reason, I always suggest in investing in a great midi skirt that you can build a workwear wardrobe around. I love Country Road’s Satin Wrap skirt, By Johnny’s Bonded Gingham Pencil Skirt, and the Henley Skirt from Macgraw.
Let’s take it back to basics. Wardrobe basics, that is! Having a range of go-to basic tops or shirts not only keeps your look polished, but saves time getting ready in the morning (win, win right?). I always suggest to have a few camisoles, a structured tee, and a good shirt to have to mix and match with . I love Silk Laundry’s Round Neck Camisole, Bassike’s Stone tee, and Witchery’s Flutter Sleeve shirt.
By mixing and matching between these pieces, you can elevate your workwear wardrobe from something you have to wear to something you have fun with. Now there are heaps of great offerings at price points that suit every budget and every body type, but if you’d like a little extra help, allow me to help guide you to find your perfect fit!
