My Guide to VAMFF 2017!
After casting our eyes to the international shows (NYFW, LFW), March, especially in Melbourne, puts our sights firmly on local talent with the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival taking over the city, bringing us the best in Australian talent (and plenty of wardrobe #inspo for the season ahead). With the whole month filled with amazing fashion, it can be hard to plan out the must sees of the festival, so I’ve made it easy for you with a guide to the can’t-miss events on the program!
THE RUNWAYS
It goes without saying, but one of the highlights of the festival is the runways. From the Gala opening and premium runways, to new additions like the international showcases, there’s something for every taste. My picks? Premium Runway 5 (featuring Mischa Collection, Thurley, White Suede and more) the Grand Showcase, this year being helmed by Camilla & Marc, and The Fashion Advocate runway (which I’m involved in!) are definite standouts!
THE ARTS PROGRAMS
It’s not all about what’s on the runway. As part of the cultural program, there are great arts-based activities available across the festival. If you’re a fan of fashion history, the Haute Couture Houses talk is a must, and if you’re in the mood for something more visual, the Fashion Film Popcorn screening in Fed Square is where you want to be.
THE SHOPPING
What’s a fashion festival without a little retail therapy? During VAMFF, there are heaps of amazing chances to fill up your wardrobe. My must do is spend a little time during the Fashion Weekend hosted by the City of Stonnington. Selected retailers across Chapel Street, Chadstone Shopping Centre, High Street, Toorak Road, Toorak Village, Glenferrie Road and Malvern Central are all taking part, and there’s always great exclusive offers and activities available.
